Frequently Asked Questions
Can a naturopath help with insomnia?
Yes. A licensed Naturopathic Doctor (ND) can help support insomnia by identifying contributing factors such as stress, nutrition, circadian rhythm disruption, and lifestyle habits, then creating a personalized, evidence‑informed plan to improve sleep quality and recovery.
Can naturopathic care help with fatigue even if my bloodwork is normal?
Yes. Fatigue can persist despite normal bloodwork. Naturopathic care looks at sleep quality, stress load, nutrition, recovery, and lifestyle factors that standard labs may not fully explain, helping address underlying contributors to low energy.
Is virtual naturopathic care effective?
Yes. Virtual naturopathic care allows for thorough assessment, education, and follow‑up. Many sleep and fatigue concerns can be effectively supported through virtual visits, especially when care focuses on lifestyle, nutrition, stress regulation, and sleep habits.
Do I need a referral to see a naturopath in Ontario?
No. You do not need a referral to book an appointment with a licensed Naturopathic Doctor in Ontario. Patients can book directly for virtual naturopathic care.
Can I use insurance for a naturopath in Ontario?
Naturopathic services are not covered by OHIP. However, many extended health benefit plans include coverage for visits with a licensed Naturopathic Doctor. Receipts are provided for insurance reimbursement, depending on your individual plan.
What is the difference between a naturopath and a sleep clinic?
A sleep clinic focuses on screening and testing for conditions like sleep apnea or insomnia. Sleep‑focused naturopathic care supports overall sleep health by addressing lifestyle, stress, nutrition, and recovery factors that influence sleep quality.
How is this different from seeing my family doctor?
Naturopathic care offers longer appointments and a root‑cause, whole‑body approach to sleep and fatigue. It complements, but does not replace, family doctors, who manage medical diagnosis, prescriptions, and acute care.
What happens during the initial appointment?
Your initial appointment is a comprehensive assessment where the Naturopathic Doctor will review your:
- Sleep patterns and concerns
- Medical and health history
- Lifestyle, stress, and nutrition
- Current supplements and medications
- Health goals
A personalized treatment plan will then be created based on your needs.
How long does it take to see improvements in sleep?
Timelines vary. Some patients notice early improvements within a few weeks, while others require longer‑term support. Progress depends on individual factors such as stress levels, sleep patterns, consistency, and underlying contributors.
Can naturopathic care be combined with insomnia therapy or sleep testing?
Yes. Naturopathic care can be combined with insomnia therapy or home sleep apnea testing when appropriate. This integrated approach helps support sleep health while ensuring medical screening and treatment pathways remain coordinated.
Will I get supplements or a treatment plan on the first visit?
You’ll receive a personalized treatment plan during your first naturopathic visit. This may include sleep strategies, nutrition and lifestyle guidance, and supplement recommendations if appropriate. Supplements are not included in the appointment fee and are optional.
What conditions can naturopathic care help support?
Our sleep-focused naturopathic services are designed to support concerns such as:
- Insomnia and poor sleep quality
- Fatigue and low energy
- Stress and burnout
- Hormonal and metabolic health
- Nutrient deficiencies
- Lifestyle factors impacting sleep and recovery
Are appointments virtual or in person?
Appointments are currently offered virtually for patients across Ontario.
Is bloodwork included?
If additional medical testing or bloodwork is recommended, patients may choose to book a separate appointment with our in-house Nurse Practitioner for OHIP-covered lab requisitions when appropriate.
Do I need to see the Nurse Practitioner?
No. Nurse Practitioner services are optional and only recommended when medically appropriate or requested by the patient.
What types of testing may be recommended?
Depending on your symptoms and goals, recommendations may include:
- Standard bloodwork
- Nutrient deficiency testing
- Amino acid testing
- Functional assessments
Are supplements included in the appointment fee?
No. Supplements or additional testing are separate from appointment fees.
Are naturopathic visits covered by OHIP?
No. Naturopathic services are not covered under OHIP.
However, many extended health benefit plans include coverage for visits with a licensed Naturopathic Doctor (ND).
Receipts are provided for insurance reimbursement.
Are Nurse Practitioner visits covered by insurance?
Nurse Practitioner services are generally not covered under extended health benefits.
How much do appointments cost?
- Initial ND Assessment (60 min): $250
- 45-Minute ND Follow-Up: $140
- 30-Minute ND Follow-Up: $110
Optional Nurse practitioner services are billed separately (if needed).
- NP Lab Requisition (15 min): $95
- NP Medical Visit (30 min): Starting at $175
How often will I need follow-up visits?
This depends on your individual goals and concerns. Your Naturopath will recommend a follow-up schedule based on your treatment plan and progress.
Can naturopathic care replace my family doctor?
No. Naturopathic care is complementary and does not replace primary medical care or emergency services.
